Me Waving on the Way Past.

I know I owe a couple of people messages, among other things, but please be patient with me. I've just suddenly moved house, taken on another job and stepped back into the land of no internet. Unless you count a slower dial up than even I could ever imagine.

I shall resume normal programming in a week or two.

So much to tell....

Step 1. Get a big hat. Wait. No, start again.

Step 1. Start scoring for the local hockey league.

Step 2. Find a player that sets your hormones pumping and doesn't smell like old socks when he gets slammed into the boards right in front of you. In this case we'll call him Number 2, since I have no imagination.

Step 3. Wait until he sets a very specific other player up for a goal and...

Step 4. When the ref skates off after saying "69 from 2" accidentally say out loud. "That would be a very fine thing."

Step 5. Duck.

Or you could just wait until she's criticising the goalie and says, "He goes down every time he even thinks somethings going to happen." and tell her, "Great boyfriend, bad goalie."

Do both in one night and she may just end up catatonic.

Life Goes On, Apparently.

Happy New Year!

It's 2am and I've just finished deciding what to wear to the Perth Cup tomorrow. I had been too busy drinking mojitos at my Grandmother's house with my my Mum, Aunty and The Frog, among others.

So, here I am to say Happy New Year to everyone. I wish I had something really clever to add, but I don't. Just, I hope 2008 is better than 2007 for you all.

Especially [info]heartofdavid, because apart from all her wonderful advice and the deliciously slashy images she feeds me, I collected my mail today. There were Penguins! 12 of them and one of them was Marc-Andre Fleury!!!! And Mark Recchi (who will always be a Penguin in my heart, even if he's now wearing a Thrashers jersey) and...and...a hockey book (with more Flower) and incredible chocolate. Best. Present. Ever. Hands down.

Seriously, you are one of the world's most amazing people, Naked Squirrel. If everyone had a friend like you, the world would be a much better place.

ETA: The Frog, in her infinite wisdom, outed me as a fanfic writer to my Mum. Then, when Mum asked me about it, made it much worse by giggling and blushing and apologising in such a manner that Mum figured out the smut factor on her own. Go Frog!

Mum's reaction? "I don't care what you write, as long as you're writing. You shouldn't waste a talent like that."

She obviously hasn't been reading my fics. But then, she is my mother, so she's biased.

First Visit in Ages!

I've been so very busy lately that the only time I sit in front of my computer is to get hockey scores. Work has been mad, but now we only have two mares to foal down and 40 on the ground, so I had tonight off. It feels odd to know that I'll get a little sleep in on my day off.

I've also been told by my GP that I am a "Nomlie." (I used to love Dark Angel.)

This might go on a bit. )

I Shouldn't Be Happy About This...

Today I got my first hockey injury!!!!

Okay, it's nothing more serious than a bruised shin and it's the muscle at the top of my shin, right below my knee, but it hurt like a bitch when it happened.

I was standing between the cones that we put up to mark the goal, but wasn't paying attention, due to the fact that everyone was doing their own thing and not shooting. At least I thought they weren't. Frog called me and I turned and skated toward her just as my pseudo son, Mark, fired one at the goal. It was a beautiful shot and I stopped it. With my leg. Not on purpose.

Now, Mark is a very cheeky brat who likes to snow me and shows off at every oportunity, but he's actually a nice kid under all the teenage hormones. He was horrified at what he'd done and came over right away asking if I was alright. I told him I was fine but that I was cursing him in three languages anyway. In typical form, he asked me to do it out loud, so I did. I called him names in English, French and Italian. He was duly impressed and we kept playing.

I have to get me some shin pads. Although I'm kind of proud of the big purple spot on my leg.

I learned how to pick the puck up with my stick today. I also learned that I cannot chasse and crossovers are scary when you think about them. The skating kind, not the fic ones. :P

Mark gave me a few pointers on how to skate hockey style and I find that a whole lot easier. Unfortunately, I have to pass the next level doing figure skatey things to qualify for hockey school. Something about being able to stop...

I bought a stick and a nerf puck, too. Now Frog can fire pucks at me in the laundry and I can stop them without pain. Mark even taped the stick for us.

And if life wasn't perfect enough? Tomorrow I get to see a Penguins game!!!! They play the Rangers and Jordan Staal's little brother is in there. Maybe he'll be abe to beat this one....

Also, Fleury has had a hissy fit and seems to have turned a corner, so maybe he won't break my heart by playing like a blind muppet. I just want to see him win.

A Whole Heap of Stuff.

1) I suck at technology. Big time. It turns out the story I sent to the wrong person was my own. It went with a lovely little "Dear X, I wrote this and I think it sucks." Kind of note, so X thought I wanted her to read it for me. *headdesk*

Plus, I'm having a bitch of a time trying to figure out how to get Semagic to post to my other journals at the same time. I can do it if they're all LJ ones, but that's not the point.

2) I saved a horse's life on the weekend. Make that two horses. This might squick some folk. )

3) I have skates!!! Ice skates of the hockey variety. I had to have them baked in the oven and wear them while hot to make them fit perfectly and now that we've bonded we'll be together for life. They even read my mind. I think I might want to go that way and they just take me. Amazing. No more sliding around on blunt bits of metal.

4) I passed 3 levels in my skating lessons, despite having to deal with the week I couldn't do a damn thing right and then having to take my final test in new skates that are actually sharp and have a break over point much further back than the Tupperskates I had been using. I would have failed the snow plough stops, but Evgeni found it amusing that I just had to think about pushing out and I came to a dead halt and then started gliding backwards. Plus, I'd been the only one in the class that had them nailed from the beginning.A list of stuff I can do on ice now. )
5) There's a kid at the rink that I want to adopt. He's like 15 or something and he goes out of his way to help Frog and I with everything from skating tips to making hot chips when we take a break. He spends his break time with us and takes us into the pro shop and shows us sticks and pads and gloves and jerseys. He's got an awesome sense of humour and he gets so excited when he has something new. He rushes over and shows us. He even squeed when we got our new skates, even though he helped fit us for them.

6) I just spent a small fortune getting an upgrade to my cable to make sure that every hockey game this season gets recorded for me to watch at leisure. It's brilliant, because it'll get the whole Stanley Cup final game for me, where my DVD recorder just doesn't go long enough. Then I get told that we may not even get any NHL this season. I think I'll die if we don't. I cannot live without hockey. That's like taking due South, Buffy, Firefly and Slings and Arrows away from me all at once. And then hiding all my Duran Duran stuff.

NEWBIE ALERT!!!!

Woohoo!
I'm a couple of days late posting this, but since it was the beginning of a very hectic and not always happy streak, I haven't even turned my computer on since then.

My lovely Miss Pammy had a baby boy in the wee hours of Callum Keith Rennie's birthday and his name is Newbie.

Horse Stuff Again.

Well, there are now over one thousand confirmed cases of Equine Influenza in Australia. Nice one, quarantine!

Turns out a farrier was bought in to shoe a horse in the compound and allowed to leave in the clothes he was wearing, without having to disinfect anything. He then went over to Centennial Park and shod a horse there. That horse went to a show...

My side of the country remains free of it, thankfully. But a large part of the biggest breeding area in the country has a teaser stallion who has tested positive. A teaser stallion is used to find out if mares are in season. He's either locked up and the mares gather around him, or led up to mares and allowed to nuzzle them. Every mare sees a teaser before breeding. Including the ones with foals. Scary stuff.

My own filly was inspected for the sales today. A vet and a bloodstock agent come to look at all the nominated horses and decide which ones go into the "Select" sale, and which go in the "Autumn".

My Polly is a maybe. Which means that if the border stays locked down beyond the time Eastern States horses come to be prepped, she gets a place. If they're allowed in, she's Autumn. The prices are always lower in the Autumn Sale, and it means I'll be at the sales complex for two weeks instead of one, but I really do hope that the EI crisis is over soon. I feel bad profiting from someone else's loss.

A Whole Bunch of Stuff.

G spot
1) Breeding season has officially started. My life is no longer my own.

2) My Senior A BlackHawks and Superleague Hawks (yes, the club has originality issues) both won their finals and I'm ridiculously happy about that, while being sad about no hockey until NHL starts. Yeah, I'm spoiled, only having a few weeks with no hockey at all, but I need it! It's like a drug.

3) Added bonus? I got to see a mostly nekkid hockey player. Just him and a towel. I still cant figure out why he went out the Zamboni doors like that, but I'm not complaining. He's the only hot one on the team.

4) I'm very behind with my skating posts. Promise I'll catch up.

5) My husband went and got a mohawk again. He had it dyed red and now he looks like a cartoon dinosaur. My sex life is doomed.

6) I've somehow started writing hockey fic. That's my dirty secret of the day. Anyone want to be my beta? I kind of... well, I... joinedachallengecom...and I have a grand total of a week for each fic. It takes most of that to write anything at all with the rest of life. *hangs head in shame*

I had to choose a pairing and I chose Crosby/Fleury because Fleury's so pretty and... well Crosby's lips were designed to... bah, who am I kidding. I'm going to hell, aren't I?

That's bad enough, I know. So I don't want to join the trend in that whole scene by posting with no beta. I have SOME standards you know. Just...they're obviously not high.

I'll post my first one here soon. The comm is a flocked one, so no point linking to it. No hurry, I'm not that proud of it.

7)It's time all naughty little [info]ultra_chromes were in bed. Night night.

For some reason I was absolutely terrified of stepping onto the ice this week. I haven't fallen yet, so it wasn't that. I have no idea, but I was shaking and forgetting to breathe and everything. Frog says I was looking like I was going to pass out.And so.... )

I just wrote a little thing about writing Dief for [info]ds_workshop and it bought back so many memories of when my darling Riff Raff was a wee bundle of Dingoness. I actually tried to give him away after one harrowing night in which he ate a hole in my matress after Bear lifted him onto the bed, made a large sloppy mess right on the toilet floor (which I stepped in) and then proceeded to headbutt my china cabinet in order to get the ceramic cats my Nanna left me.

Nobody wanted him, though, so I set out to make him the best friend a girl could have. I succeeded, too. Mostly.

Then I got to thinking about the critters in my life right now and I think I'd better be damn sure to keep the cupboards well stocked, or I'm a goner.

I have three dogs. Riffy, Bear and Rusty. I did not name the last two, okay? If I had, they'd have been way more fun to call.

Then there's six cats. Molly (Don't blame me for that one, either.) Desmond, Mercy, Draco, Simon and Juliet.

Three horses. Pammy, Polly and Puffy. (Or Nip and Tuck, '06 State City/Nip and Tuck and Zaldaan.) The pet names are much more fun, huh?

One Siamese Fighting Fish. Emmett.

A ridiculous amount of free range chickens.

There's a grand total of three humans amongst all that crowd. Remind me never to fall down at feed time.

My First Skating Lesson.

Ouch! My butt hurts. A lot. Not from falling over, mind. Nooo, that would be a quick and simple way to inflict pain. instead I had to get a sore butt the hard way. Swizzles and Squats. I have muscles I forgot I owned. In fact, I'm still not sure I own them. Right now they own me.

It was very humiliating, actually. I don't do so well with the looking like an idiot in public. I can do the clown thing, but being genuinely hopeless? Not my scene.
Chapter one. In which I am mocked by my own daughter. )

What a day! One of those I call Murphy days. Everything that can does.

A colt that was on the mend took a spectacular turn for the worse.

All the stables we emptied to make the weekend easier were filled up with new arrivals.

The Frog has encountered more red tape, leaving us wondering if all government departments exist to drive people insane.

Two of our cats have taken a dislike to each other and both have lost fur and gained wounds. We are now keeping them separated.

I somehow managed to drive a stalk of lucerne hay into the palm of my hand deep enough that I can't get it out and will have to wait for it to get festy. The way it feels now tells me that won't be long.

Add in all the things that broke when I tried to use them and the farrier coming so late that I had to stay late to get the trims done and the leaving my purse at home when I needed to get fuel on the way home...

At least it stopped raining long enough for me to do some maintenance jobs that needed dealing with. And it's August, so baby horses will be coming soon. Mine won't be here until the middle of next month though.

You know that mid life crisis I was going to have? Well, I've taken up ice skating. I figure I could just as easily break bones at work, so what does it matter if I fall down? I've been a couple of times and even though I suck, I love it. I'm going to start having lessons next week and hopefully buy my own skates very soon, because those hire skates are cruel and unusual torture.

Then I'm going to learn to play hockey. Just for a laugh. At my age it wouldn't be anything less than hilarious.

As for writing? Sooo not happening right now. I haven't even had time to read lately. I seem to be finding more things to fill my time away from the computer and when I get in front of it, I kind of lurk here and there, hardly even bothering to type replies to anything.

With foaling season here, I'll hopefully be able to print stuff out and read. So are there any dS or hockey fics out there that I simply must read? Let me know.

What did I miss? Absolutely everything. You name it, I missed it.

I've been ridiculously busy since I got back from my holiday. I've barely even had the computer on. The television is lonely.

So, here are a few random things that I've discovered lately.
Okay, maybe more than a few. )

Well, I'm back. No fan-fare, many tears. I miss my Frog even more now, which may be unhealthy, but I really don't care.

We had some fun and some disasters and played in snow. We made a snow turtle. We went ice skating and took in a hockey game. We talked hockey until we fell asleep at night. We watched some Due South and Twitch City and hockey movies and we spent ridiculous amounts of time on trains.

I might be inspired to write it in more detail at some point, but right now I'm arguing with my email so....

If I missed anything exciting, comment and let me know. Fic, birthdays, interesting rants, anything. I'm not even going to attempt to go back through the flist to hunt for stuff. I think I need a nap now.

A Quick Peek In.

  • Jun. 10th, 2007 at 6:21 PM
Woohoo!
Holidays are in progress. I am in Frog Land and loving it.

We got to watch the last game of the Stanley Cup Fials together and it was sooo sweet to see the Ducks win it so convincingly. Then we squeed and carried on all day. I can't imagine how we'll be when the Penguins get it next year.

The trains over here are pretty freaky. Public transport is ridiculously expensive. The shopping is dangerous. I've spent far too much money on warm hats and dvds. Oh, and socks. Many socks.

Sydney is a scary city. It smells bad and everything is too loud and too big. Coming from a dedicated hermit, this is probably a skewed opinion...

Thankfully, I'm staying in a smallish town about 2 hours south of the city.

It started raining the night I got here and didn't stop for more than 20 minutes until this morning. My Mum rang to make sure I hadn't been killed in the floods that are apparently raging not too far away. I didn't even know about them.

Next week we start doing fun stuff. I'll have more to report then.

Oh and the biggest achievement? I have managed to stay in my pyjamas all day today! it has to be done at least once while I'm on holidays...

Well, for a little while, anyway.

In a few short hours I will be on a plane and on my way to Frog. For two and a bit weeks!!!!

So please don't think I'm rude and horrible if I don't leave comments or reply to any left for me. I'll have a little bit of access from time to time, but mostly I'll be too busy having fun and possibly baking cookies to spend much time on the net.

I'm so excited I could just explode!!!

For the lack of Penguins, I've been doing some Duck loving. What can I say, I like waddly birds. :p

One day I want to make a hockey team where I live and call them the Serpentine Super Chickens and dress them in black and gold. I have no clue who they'll play against...

Where was I? Oh yeah, Duck squee. )

For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, it has been bought to my attention that I'm not like other girls. But I am. Just not other girls around here.

In other news. I outed myself as a slash writer last night. The how is hiding. )

And now I'm off to watch Suspicious River again, so that I can be all clever about it on Monday...
